How did they meet?

Now that we have the important info (the engagement story), we can back up and learn a little more about Dan and Molly meeting and dating.

In January of 2008, Molly moved to Logan, Utah to attend Utah State University.  Per her older sister's advice *wink* she moved into a nice apartment complex close to campus.  Later, she would learn that a certain Dan Dutson lived in the apartment next door.  So, for a few weeks Molly heard about Dan from roommates and they saw each other at ward functions.  They soon met and became fast friends.  This friendship continued until the end of spring semester.  "We started to realize that we liked each other, " says Molly.  "We began dating, and 5 days later went on our first date!"  A little backwards, but oh well.  Molly continues, "Dan and I officially started dating on April 21st.  When the semester ended, Dan left for Oregon for an internship at Erickson Aircraft.  He was gone the whole summer.  I went on a few dates, but Dan and I still talked every day.  The last two months, I anxiously waited for him to come home, and was excited when he finally returned!  We've been inseparable ever since."

How did he propose?

I know everyone is just itching to know how Dan proposed to Molly, so here's the story-straight from Molly's mouth:

It was Friday, September 12th, and I was driving to Hyde Park to pick up Dan.  The plan was for us to come back to my apartment to study and then have waffles.  I brought my friend Natalie along for the ride.  When we got there, Dan asked if I would go outside with him to feed his dog before we left. (Sidenote-the dog's name is Molly, so yes, there is already a Molly Dutson!)  We were walking toward the porch when Dan suddenly asked, "What could this string be?"  Immediately, I was so excited and tried to turn around, but Dan grabbed my hand before I could.  We followed the string all the way around his backyard.  I started to tease Dan by asking him if if he was asking me out on a date?  He corrected me by saying, "No, the date."  The string finally led to his window.  He climbed in first and then I went in after him.  Inside, there was a teddy bear and an open notebook with a poem written on it.  The poem was so cute, but now there was another string that I had to follow. (It was pretty sad that I got tangled in it!)  This string led to the back closet, where inside-I would soon learn-there was a box.  Dan told me to go and open it.  I was so excited to take off the string and open the box!  Inside there was a note that read 1-2 weeks.  I immediately thought, 'Why is he proposing without the ring?!'  I turned around to Dan on one knee with THE RING in another box!  He said to me, "Molly Rose Willis, will you marry me?"  I told him, "Of course I will!"  He gave me the ring and I put it on.  Then, his family (who was supposed to be in Idaho) came into the room.  I hugged Dan, my future in-laws, and then Natalie.
Though we wanted to get the proposal on tape, it didn't work out that way.  It was set up and everything, but the tape was at the end and stopped recording.  So, we'll have to just remember what happened!
